parkers car review ,It sounds like the DPF is trying to run its burn off cycle. You say you removed the DPF (or its core?) but did you have a re-map so that the DPF cycle is deleted from the engine management?
The burn off cycle would make a lot of smoke if there were no DPF in there to burn the soot out of...........
Also, a diesel cannot run lean, they always run lean as they are not "throttled". A diesel would run hot if it had too much fuel entering, quite the opposite of a petrol engine in fact. I believe the burn off cycle runs the engine very rich and retards the fuel injection cycle to achieve "burn off". Simple rich running would actually cause a diesel to make massive power!! A look on youtube would demonstrate quite well. parkers car and driver
